the premiere of Béla Bartók’s opera Duke Bluebeard’ Castle

On 11 and 14 June as part of the XVIII Stars of the White Nights Music Festival the Mariinsky Theatre is presenting the premiere of Béla Bartók’s opera Duke Bluebeard’ Castle featuring the outstanding British opera singer Willard White as the Duke and the greatest performer of the role of Judith in recent years – Elena Zhidkova.
Willard White and Elena Zhidkova were involved in a recent recording of the opera Duke Bluebeard’s Castle with the London Symphony Orchestra under Valery Gergiev. This disc was released in 2009.
Valery Gergiev will be conducting on 11 and 14 June.
