co-curated the exhibition with Fernando Mazzocca and who is one of Italy's leading experts on the 19th century, offers his interpretation of the history of Italian painting in that century, highlighting the common features, the shared needs and the intellectual ferment that we can trace in the painting of the artists working at what was a time of deep transformation, and all of whose work is well represented in the exhibition.
