August Craft Month 2011 Ireland
August Craft Month is Northern Ireland’s annual celebration of craft. Craft Chat is this year’s theme. Join the chat.
Here are some of the highlights:
Exhibitions - Normal Flora by Anna Dumitriu, R-Space Gallery, Lisburn; A White, A Blue, A Yellow, Red Poetry by Jeremy Reed at Craft NI; Sense of Place at Space CRAFT Gallery; Trans FORM Exhibition at Millennium Court Arts Centre and PIECE WORK at Arts & Disability Form.
Talks - Creative Collaborations, New Embroidery, Landscapes of the Interior and the Craft of Conversation.
Workshops - Make, Tea & Tell with the Craft Guerillas at the Craft Village, Derry; Eco Bags at Belfast Mela; Street Weave - Spin a yarn & pass it on; Treasure Archive at Craft NI, Belfast; Yarn Bombing Belfast vs Stitch ‘n’ Bitch Lisburn; Make! At the Ulster Museums and Design a Ring.
This year’s August Craft Month also has a few surprises in store including an invasion in Portadown, naughty embroidery at Skullduggery Tatu and Knit Sonik at University of Ulster.
Champion for Craft in Northern Ireland
Craft Northern Ireland, is the sector-lead body for the promotion and development of the design-led contemporary craft industry in Northern Ireland.
Craft NI supports and promotes the craft industry as an integral, entrepreneurial and vibrant part of the region's economic and cultural infrastructure. Its key partners include; regional government and agencies, local government, cultural organisations, universities and colleges of further and higher education, private business and industry.
