Vienna Zitherquartett
The Quartet was founded in 1989 by Prof. Hannelore Laister and her excellent musicians with the aim of promoting their almost forgotten instrument. It is their objective to perform classical music on the zither at the highest possible level of virtuosity at excellent locations across Europe and the world. The four musicians strive to present the full potential of the zither with a huge repertoire ranging from baroque and classical music to ancient Viennese music and even including blues and pop music, most of which many people would not expect to hear on the zither.
The Haydn Festival
The Haydn Festival – which takes place annually in September – is a high point of the concert season. The works of Joseph Haydn are always at the heart of the festival. The musical focus is framed by the woks of other composers to show relationship, offer a comparison and contrast of Haydn’s works to other compositions. Furthermore, through the comparison of period instrument ensembles and “modern” orchestras, the public is given the opportunity for a direct comparison of various performing styles. Additionally, through the annual changing areas of focus, such as “Haydn and London”, “Haydn and Vocal Music”, “Hunting and Wine”, among others, access to the entire works of the master is made possible.
The Austro-Hungarian Haydn Orchestra was founded by Adam Fischer in corporation with the Haydn Festival, and is the “orchestra-in-residence” at the Haydn Festival and has always been led by him since then. A specific of the orchestra is a so-called “Eisenstadt or Pannonian style”. Moreover, every effort has been made to record in CD-quality all of the Haydn Symphonies played in the Haydn Hall.
The consistent following and continuation of the program design, under the artistic direction of Dr. Walter Reicher, has meanwhile led to the Haydn Festival becoming the “Centre of the international world of Joseph Haydn”.
