Antigone - Víctor Ullate Ballet

In 442 B.C.,  Sophocles wrote one of the greatest tragedies ever, Antigone. It is a magnificent drama based on the myth of the daughter of King Oedipus  and on this occasion, it has been adapted and choreographed by the prestigious dancer, María Pagés, along with the  participation of the Víctor Ullate Dance School.

This classic Greek text is founded on the loss of equilibrium between duty and love, the confrontation between family and the state, but above all, on its in-depth examination of legality and social norms. The play tells how Antigone disobeys the Thebes Law to bury and honour the corpse of her brother, Poliynices, considered to be a traitor by his compatriots after rising up against his brother, King Eteocles.
