The Kadriorg palace and park were founded by the Russian tsar Peter I.  The well-preserved main hall is one of the best examples of Baroque architecture not only in Estonia but also in the whole Northern Europe. The main exposition of the collection of the Kadriorg Art Museum (Western European and Russian art from 16th–20th century) is valuable and quite remarkable. In addition, temporary exhibitions, concerts, and theatre performances take place.

The best of Johannes Mikkel’s collection is displayed on the first floor of the palace kitchen building in Kadriorg. The history of this building goes back to 1721, when the predecessor of the present building was built, together with the palace and the surrounding park. The exposition of the Mikkel Museum located in the kitchen house belonging to the palace complex displays Western European paintings and prints, as well as Chinese and European porcelain.
